Much of my inspiration comes from my experience of moving through the world. I lack ease and balance in walking and use line on the page to explore swift, dynamic and graceful movement.
I started out studying film and tv at Edinburgh College of Art, my work retains a sense of sequence and often narrative, but my interest in the simplicity of expression with a pencil and paper means I now focus my practice on drawing.
Abstract and minimal works record and track movement in the form of landscapes and maps. Many works feature the colours of, earth, sky and water with constantly shifting perspectives from plan to elevation they are not traditional landscape pieces. To walk anywhere I look down to focus on the terrain; I walk slowly, but from this position I see the ground with its cracks and weeds. The space on a page gives me freedom to dance, fly and run.
I have been involved with Kettleās Yard as an artist facilitator for a number of years, running workshops for people and families of all ages and abilities.
